Lamu Island is among the four most popular destination for fun lovers, according to travel website Triptogether.com.

The website describes Lamu Island, a designated World Heritage Site, as “perfect for travel partners to kick-back and really get to know each other in a paradise setting”.

In its just released hot tips, the social travel website urged its 100,000 members to banish the boredom of solo travel, break from routine and head to Lamu with a companion.

The island is world famous for its old architecture and narrow roads with its annual donkey race becoming an international sensation. The town has more donkeys than motor vehicles.

Maui in America, Venice in Italy and China’s Macau, which are also world heritage sites, are the other destinations picked by the site for travellers seeking fun and sunshine this February.

TripTogether.com helps single travellers connect with people who are looking for travel partners, or who just want to share experiences with members visiting their country.

More than one million trips have already been planned using TripTogether’s Travel Planner feature, which displays members’ planned trips to help find travel matches.

The website uses an iPhone app to match single travellers and its members are drawn from 190 countries and 11,000 cities.
