If you’re a sucker for sweeping views over dinner, then Cloud 9 restaurant is for you. This restaurant is set on the rooftop of the Clarence House Hotel & Apartments on No. 8 School Lane, Westlands.

It’s a cozy establishment that doubles up as a delightful pool bar when the weather allows.

After the good reviews from my friends, I was keen to give Cloud 9 a test run.

The perfect opportunity arose when I teamed up with a few hungry colleagues on a chilly Thursday evening.

From the moment we walked in, we were mesmerised by the magnificent view of the Westlands skyline.

The restaurant was fairly busy, with a few patrons huddled together for a meeting while others caught up with the sports highlights at the bar. Once we were settled, we quickly embraced our welcome drinks, a delicious glass of sangria that had us craving more as soon as we were done.

Drinks aside, it was time to order our starters. Given that I hadn’t had a refreshing bowl of soup in ages, I was looking forward to trying their chicken coconut soup with parmesan breadsticks.

The chicken and coconut combination was sublime with each flavour complementing the other. I would have eaten it all night if I could but there was a second and third course to come.

Generous portions

For my main meal, I opted for beef pilgrim which came on a bed of green pea sauce with macaire potatoes and vegetable bouquets on the side.

The portions were generous and the vegetable bouquet, a combination of carrots and french beans wrapped with some bacon, were delicious and the first to disappear off my plate.

Quite chewy

However, I did wish the beef was less chewy and would have been improved with a hint of a little more seasoning to bring the flavour of the meat out.

It was finally time for dessert, but just before that, another round of sangria was sent our way and we were loving it.

I decided to try fiery ginger mousse out of sheer curiosity. Did it pay off? While I did enjoy the mousse, I would have loved a little more ginger just to bring out the fiery aspect of the dessert. All in all, Cloud 9 is worth the visit.

Pop in on a day when the sun is out, have a dip in their pool, fill up your belly and enjoy the view.
