Workers’ and employers’ associations have two days to nominate representatives to the Housing Fund advisory board that will oversee implementation of the 500,000 affordable homes project.

The associations must submit 18 names to the Transport, Infrastructure, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary to facilitate selection of six members who will sit in the Fund’s advisory board.

Formation of the board could pave the way for levying of 1.5 per cent from the 2.5 million formal sector workers’ pay every month with employers expected to chip in a similar amount that will raise about Sh6 billion monthly for the kitty.

Those invited to nominate representatives are Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu), Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut), Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE), Union of Kenya Civil Servants, Kenya Bankers Association (KBA) and Kenya Private Sector Alliance (Kepsa).

The associations must submit three nominees each.
