Commuter services provider Modern Coast is set to expand its fleet on the Nairobi-Busia route next month to accommodate travellers who have increasingly been using Kampala-bound buses.

Communications manager Jervice Sunday said the increase of the fleet from eight to 10 is aimed at creating additional space for passengers along the route.

The company says the scramble for the Kampala buses has, occasionally, led to limited spaces for other travellers, which also means lost sales.

“Our passengers to Busia usually book the six Kampala bound buses resulting in lack of space for our customers to Kampala,” he said.

Mr Sunday said the two-43 seater buses will be charging Sh1, 000 on the route. The buses will be leaving for Busia from Nairobi at 8am.

“This move will ease space on Kampala buses and give Busia bound customers a product special to their needs,” said Mr Sunday.

The bus firm last December spent Sh360 million to acquire a fleet of eight new buses to ply the Nairobi-Kampala route.

The 45-seater buses also known as ‘Oxygen’ or ‘Bamboocha’ have been leaving Nairobi at 8pm.

Apart from the Coast, Kampala, Busia, it also plies the Kisii route, reaching towns like Homa Bay and Rongo.
