OLX will start verifying the fitness of vehicles sold through its advertising platform in a new category that will see a seller pay Sh2,000 besides the car inspection fee.

The online advertising is getting more involved in the transaction by having the buyer purchase cars vetted by a partner inspection firm.

“It is very different from our normal vehicles category in that, a buyer is now able to buy cars that have been checked and verified by OLX,” said OLX country manager Peter Ndiang’ui.

“We have partnered with an inspection company that will give buyers inspection services at a discounted rate.”

Money for buying the car will be sent directly to OLX and released once the vehicle has exchanged hands, offering an additional security.

After gaining customers through free services in Kenya and the rest of Africa, OLX has launched a push to earn money through paid premium listings.

The firm is now seeking a piece of the car financing and insurance business in the quest to grow earnings. It has opened partnership talks with insurance firms and financiers.
