East African Breweries Limited (EABL) has appointed a former BAT executive to head its corporate relations department, filling the position which has remained vacant since March.

The regional brewer has appointed Julie Adell-Owino, a former head of corporate and regulatory affairs at BAT, to the position that was held by Brenda Mbathi who moved to General Electric.

“Julie was appointed group corporate relations director, EABL in June 2015,” the brewer says on its website.

“She is an experienced corporate affairs, policy and regulation specialist with over 24 years experience in both the private and public sectors.”

Ms Adell left BAT in September 2012 and became the managing director of Jumon Africa Business Solution —a management consulting company that she co-owns with her husband.

The trained lawyer has also previously worked at Kenya Wildlife Service, consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

EABL posted an 11 per cent net profit growth in the half-year ended December to Sh4.6 billion as sales rose faster than costs.

The brewer’s turnover increased 9.1 per cent to Sh34.7 billion, driven by fast growth of the flagship Tusker brand. Its Tanzania’s sales jumped 17 per cent while international exports more than doubled.
