Major-General Philip Wachira Kameru has been sworn in as National Intelligence Service (NIS) director-general. The new Airforce commander, Major General Samuel Ng’ang’a Thuita also took oath in a ceremony witnessed by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday morning.

The swearing in of Major-General Kameru followed his confirmation to the position by the National Assembly in a special sitting on Thursday. The swearing in ceremony – conducted by the Head of Public Service and Chief of Staff Joseph Kinyua – was also witnessed by the Deputy President William Ruto.

President Kenyatta told the new officers to join hands with other government officials in delivering effective and efficient service to Kenyans.

Present during the swearing-in ceremony were the Chief of Defence Forces General Julius Karangi, several Cabinet Secretaries including Defence Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo. National Assembly Majority Leader Adan Duale, Chairman of the Parliamentary Defence Committee Ndungu Githinji and his deputy Barre Shill also witnessed the ceremony.
