Shocker over Shiro’s cosy relationship with Timo

Finally we have moved and despite my earlier protests the new house is actually quite nice. To begin with it is nearer to Maingi’s school (in fact the house help can drop him on foot) and the commute to the office is much shorter.

Shiro seems very pleased with the new house and she has been looking through décor magazines looking for ideas for the new house- my hope is that it does not cost me any more money.

The baby will be here August in just under three months and so I keep telling her that we need to focus on the baby for now and not on ‘expensive and unnecessary decorating.” She then went on to say, “A man of your standing in the office should have a house that many people can envy and look up to.”

I was puzzled by her comments since just a few weeks ago; she thought that my new job was no big deal. I could not help asking her the question, “but you said that my job is nothing more than a secretarial job, what has changed?” That is when she responded and said, “I spoke to Timo about your job, and he told me that you are literally the CEO’s right hand man and so very powerful.” This was the first time I was hearing about Timo and so I asked, “who is Timo? I have never heard of him!” She chuckled and said,
“Timo is like my best friend in the office and my sounding board for many things.” Something about the softness with which she spoke about Timo had me very scared so I said, “Is Timo married? Did you spend the night at his place last week when it rained?”

Shiro has been reluctant to share exact details of where she spent the night and now this conversation has me quite suspicious that she might have spent the night with Timo. She then spent the next five minutes telling me about Timo. Timo it turns out is a diaspora returnee having lived in the US for six years, is single and has been working with Shiro for the last one year.

So understanding

She was praising him non-stop saying she does not understand why he is not married because he is so understanding.

“Imagine on the day you could not make it to the doctor’s appointment, he actually took me.” This was news to me, and not good news for that matter. Since I did not want to get into an argument especially in the morning, I opted to let that go and revisit the matter another time- it might be nothing after all.

I wished Shiro a good day and set off to the office to attend to my very busy day. In the office, I set about working on a business case for the company. The company is considering opening a new branch in Uganda and I have been tasked to give a full view of the pros and cons of doing so.

This involves quite a lot of compilation and analysis of data to justify the decision. Compiling my business case has involved getting all manner of statistics from often reluctant government agencies but things are beginning to take shape.

By the time I finished working on my project in addition to attending numerous meetings, it was way past 7 pm and by the time I got home it was 8 pm. I was very shocked to get home and realise that Shiro was not home.

I decided to call Shiro to find out her whereabouts and also enquire about her safety. Despite calling Shiro close to five times, my phone went unanswered which made me worried. I decided to call two of her girlfriends who all claimed that they had not spoken to Shiro in a week. All I could do was help Maingi with his homework and hope Shiro would come home soon.

Shiro finally walked into the house at 9.30 pm looking very pleased with herself and shocked to see me. “You are home! I thought you would be out with your friends.” I told her, “I have been home since 7 pm and just put Maingi to sleep. Where were you? I was worried about you.”

“Relax, I was with Timo. We went for a function and I lost track of time,” she said. This Timo story is sounding worse by the day.
