University of Nairobi will represent East Africa at an international finance competition to be held in Amsterdam in April.

Five students from the university’s Faculty of Commerce narrowly defeated those from Strathmore University and will now represent the region at the Certified Financial Analysts (CFA) Institute Research Challenge.

The winners from the Amsterdam competition will proceed to the global final slated for later in the year.

“CFA Institute will sponsor each winning team to the regional Africa Middle East & Asia EMEA championships to vie for the global title to be held in New York,” said CFA president (East Africa Chapter) Helen Ouko.

USIU, Kenyatta University, Makerere University Business School, Makerere University and KCA University are the other institutions that took part in the four-month competition.

Students were tested on company research, analysis and report writing and made the presentations before a panel of portfolio managers and chief investment officers.

The University of Nairobi and Strathmore tied after making presentations. The panel chose the winner after awarding a special point that was based on school ranking.
