Health secretary Cleopa Mailu has gazetted two new appointments at the ministry, including the fresh mandate of Dr Nduku Kilonzo as director of the National Aids Control Council (NACC).
“Dr Kilonzo will be the Director of the NACC for a period of three years, with effect from May 5,” said Dr Mailu in the gazette notice.
Simon Kimani has been named chairperson of the Public Health Officers and Technicians Council (PHOTC) as per a gazette notice dated September 21.
Dr Mailu said that Mr Kimani, who replaces Samuel Muthinji, will lead the council for three years.
The appointments come after 26 senior doctors at the ministry moved to court seeking to stop their deployment to other outposts away from their plum Afya House jobs by Health principal secretary Julius Korir on September 26, citing malice and discrimination.
Before his appointment, Mr Kimani was a member of PHOTC inspection team, which actively involved in ensuring Kenyan universities improve the quality of public health practitioners being produced into the field.
Dr Kilonzo was first appointed at NACC in 2014 as its director after taking over from Prof Alloys Orago who had served the Council in the position from 2007 to 2013.
