Chinese tech firm Huawei is targeting government hospitals with a telemedicine solution that aims to close the experts’ gap among public health institutions countrywide.
Huawei has already installed the programme and is piloting it in select Lamu County hospitals. The innovation to be rolled out when nurses, currently on strike, resume duty.
Huawei has partnered with the Ministry of Health, telecoms operator Safaricom #ticker:SCOM and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in the project.
Telemedicine solutions are used where there are no specialists, especially in remote areas.
The solution helps patients cut cost, particularly where they are required to seek a second opinion from doctors in far-flung towns.
Huawei announced the plan to scale up the app during The East African Digital Health conference in Kampala.
