GOtv reverses price increases on tough competition

GOtv, a subsidiary of Multichoice Kenya, has reversed the May price increase on one of its tariff plans – GOtv Value-- and made a similar tariff slash on its GOtv lite package.

Subscribers of the GOtv Value will now pay Sh470 per month from Sh650 translating into a 28 per cent price cut, while customers on the GOtv Lite package will now pay Sh160 per month, or Sh375 per quarter, or Sh840 per annum, down from Sh1,800.

The new tariffs of its Lite and Value packages becomes effective on August 20, 2016.

In May GOtv increased tariffs of the GOtv Value from Sh599 to Sh650. The prices of GOtv lite however remained unchanged.

“Our subscribers will pay less but still enjoy the same quality of entertainment. They will also continue to access the same number of channels on their respective bouquets only at a lower rate.” GOtv Kenya General Manager, Felix Kyengo said in a statement.

New channels

GOtv Lite subscribers will also get access to two new channels namely Emmanuel TV and SuperSort Blitz in addition to the 14 existing TV channels on the bouquet. Heavy competition due to multiple players in the market is expected to limit waves price increases.

GOtv Value subscribers have access to over 25 channels including sports, news, general entertainment, children’s programming, and religious content.

The price of GOtv’s most premium bouquet - GOtv Plus, remains Sh920 per month. The price of the GOtv decoder and GOtenna also goes down to Sh2,999 from the previous cost of Sh3,999 beginning August 1, 2016.

The decoder comes bundled with one month free GOtv Plus to ensure subscribers immediate access to the best quality entertainment. The decoder alone will retail at Sh1,999 and is available at all leading dealers and retail outlets countrywide.
