Kenya Re has opened a search to fill the vacant position of CEO as the 12-year tenure of Jadiah Mwarania comes to an end next month.

In a notice published on Wednesday, the Nairobi Securities Exchange-listed reinsurer said the CEO, who will also double up as the Managing Director (MD), will be charged with the overall leadership and management of the corporation including its subsidiaries and global markets.

“Applicants must have a bachelor's degree in Finance, Insurance and Business Administration or any other relevant degree from a recognised university, a postgraduate qualification and a minimum of 15 years experience at the senior management level of a large organisation,” reads the notice in part.

The company had last week announced that Mr Mwarania will be proceeding on annual leave from December 15 to pave way for the new recruitment. His term lapses at the end of April next year.

In the interim, the board has appointed Michael Mbeshi, the reinsurer’s property management general manager to take over in an acting capacity.

Mwarania has been with the company for a total of 25 years, having risen through the ranks to be appointed MD in 2011.

His stint at the helm has however not been without incident. In early 2018, he was unceremoniously sacked from the reinsurer ostensibly for non-performance before a court order reinstated him in July of the same year.
