Standard Bank reveals Sh167bn war chest for regional buyouts

Standard Bank was earlier linked to an acquisition of NCBA last year before Nedbank swooped in and made its offer in January 2026.

South African multinational lender Standard Bank Group has revealed a Sh166.7 billion warchest for investments across its markets in Africa, at a time when it is looking to deepen its presence in key markets including Kenya.

The sum was disclosed by the bank’s CEO Sim Tshabalala in a presentation of the lender’s financial results for the first half of 2026.
