The International Vaccine Institute (IVI) is set to open a country and project office in Kenya.

The International Vaccine Institute (IVI) is set to open a country and project office in Kenya, which will serve as the headquarters of its Advancing Vaccine End-to-End Capabilities (AVEC) project in Africa.

The AVEC Africa initiative aims to accelerate the development and manufacturing of vaccines in the region through end-to-end research and development projects, strengthening the vaccine ecosystem in Africa and advancing vaccine research and development in the region.

The office will also collaborate with local partners, including the Kenya BioVax Institute, to manage its vaccine portfolio including vaccines for infectious diseases such as cholera, typhoid, chikungunya, shigella, salmonella, schistosomiasis, hepatitis E, HPV, and Covid-19.

The initiative follows an approval by the IVI Board of Trustees (BOT) decision to pursue AVEC Africa, marking a significant step in the organisation's efforts to advance vaccine research and development in Africa.
