  • Bomet governor Isaac Ruto alleged the police had interfered with an otherwise well planned poll by IEBC.

A section of gubernatorial candidates have commended the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for what they termed as a smooth and well managed election process.

In Nyandarua and Nakuru counties, Dr Kiarie Badilisha, Mr Francis Kimemia, Mr Waithaka Mwangi and Mr Lee Kinyanjui congratulated IEBC for a job well done.

Dr Badilisha who cast his vote at AC polling station in Ol-Kalou town said the election was well managed but expressed concern about the ‘snail speed.’

Jubilee candidate Francis Kimemia cast his vote at Nyandundo Primary School Polling Station in Mirangaine, Olkalou Constituency.

He said he has faith in IEBC to deliver a credible election and thanked Nyandarua voters for maintaining peace.

Shorter queues

Also in Nakuru, outgoing Governor Kinuthia Mbugua said IEBC’s decision to restrict the numbers of registered voters at 700 per polling station had greatly boosted voter turnout by cutting down on long queues.

Speaking after voting at Tayari Primary School polling station in Molo, Mr Mbugua - who withdrew his bid to defend the seat in favour of his opponent Lee Kinyanjui after losing in the party nominations - also lauded voters for waking up early to choose their leaders.

In many polling stations in Molo and Elburgon, the exercise went on smoothly.

In Bomet, governor Isaac Ruto - who cast his vote at Chebaraa primary school polling station in Chepalungu constituency - alleged that the police had interfered with an otherwise well planned process by the polling agency.

“The elections are going on smoothly in all the centres save for few polling stations where the anomalies were detected and hoped IEBC will rectify the mess,” he said.
