The Kenyan Coast is home to some of the most unequal communities in the country, which underlines the persistent social unrest in the region that is the bedrock of the tourism industry, a new report shows.

In a report released Thursday, the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) says that the Gini Coefficient – a measure of income distribution that assigns zero to perfect equality and 1 to absolute inequality – is highest in Tana River at 0.62 per cent followed by Kwale, Kilifi and Lamu counties.
