The rains have come and with them, unending traffic jams that have seen people stuck on the road for hours on end.

At the end of the day, all one wants is to get out of the congestion, and enjoy a good meal in a cozy environment.

If still a couple of metres away from home, why not pop into one of the many restaurants that are coming up on the outskirts of Nairobi, that offer a warm meal and a cozy environment. It’s an ideal place to wait out the traffic, in comfort.

One such place is The Corner Affair, in the heart of Westlands, Nairobi. It’s ideally named as it sits at the corner of Rhapta and Mvuli Roads. Away from the busy Waiyaki Way, these roads are less congested.

Arif Hassan Ali, the restaurants proprietor and chef, says his main drive of putting up the restaurant is client satisfaction.

He describes his cuisine as continental and a fusion of food blends.

The restaurant has a sophisticated atmosphere that is homely. It offers a pleasant dining experience with a comfortable lounging area.

The rustic and cozy interior sets the scene for a quiet, romantic rendezvous. Guest can enjoy the lush gardens, on a dry evening, while the patio offers a tranquil bistro set up.

The menu boasts a wide variety of meat and vegetarian dishes and though Chef Afir recommends everything on the menu he says the three most popular dishes at the restaurant are: chicken escalope wrapped in beef bacon, grilled prime fillet steak, spinach and ricotta ravioli. My favourite is any of the freshly oven baked pizzas.

On my most recent visit I got to enjoy the pumpkin soup, with sweet corn and for a main course I tried the pan-fried fish escalope-fillet of snapper, stuffed with spinach, and wrapped with bacon served with mashed potatoes.

It was a culinary experience with flavours bursting in the mouth.

And just when I thought I could not eat any more, a friendly waiter offered an irresistible dessert menu.

I opted for the apple pie and vanilla ice cream. The pie had a distinctive taste that Chef Arif explained to be a “secret recipe sauce” and the combination of the green apples and sultanas that gave the taste.

The restaurant has a wide selection of wines, over 30, from all around the world to compliment the menu. There is also champagne.

Recently the restaurant opened its doors for breakfast customers offering a wide variety of freshly baked goods and a delivery service around Rhapta Road.

The Corner Affair also offers conference facilities, fully equipped for meetings of up to 35 people.

The meeting rooms have wireless internet and can be set up to suit your requirements and objectives.

Going ahead Chef Arif wants to make The Corner Affair a weekend getaway for guests – both locals and international.

The ample and secure parking coupled with great food and ambiance certainly makes The Corner Affair a fantastic place to experience a home away from home.
