Esther Nyokabi Mathenge will replace Samuel Mwangi Thuita, who died last week, as the transition chairperson.
Land secretary Farida Karoney has swiftly moved to control operations at the controversial Embakasi Ranching Company by installing a new chairperson, and replaced PS Nicholas Muraguri as the facilitator ahead of the August winding up.
Director of communications at the ministry Joseph Kamuto said Esther Nyokabi Mathenge would replace Samuel Mwangi Thuita, who died last week, as the transition chairperson.
During his burial in Kirinyaga last Saturday, Mr Kigera Wairegi was introduced as the acting chairman of the private land firm.
“We’re in need of a chairperson who will co-operate with us. We are acting on a presidential directive that we dissolve this company and issue title deeds. We had intended to do so by February…we want a chairperson who will work with all stakeholders with no strings attached,” said Mr Kamuto.
He added that the ministry decided to replace the Land PS due to his busy work schedule.
“Dr Muraguri has too much in his hands and we needed someone who will dedicate the time necessary to deal with the intricacies of the exercise. For that matter, the chief administrative secretary in the ministry Gideon Mung’aro will take over,” said Mr Kamuto.
He said Mr Mung’aro brings in the expertise needed in circumventing some of the politics at play in the exercise.
“Furthermore, Mung’aro has the experience of age needed in dealing with the advanced age sets in the shareholders’ register as well as negotiation skills and has some experience having had served in the parliamentary Committee on Land,” said Mr Kamuto. He said the State would not tolerate disruptions that have seen President Uhuru Kenyatta postpone issuance of title deeds three times.
