During the Student’s Innovation Summit at Kenya Innovation Week, Huawei launched a drive for student entries for the Innovation Award of its global ICT Competition. Huawei ICT Competition is a competitive ICT talent exchange event developed by Huawei for University and college students globally.

To promote the healthy development of the ICT talent ecosystem and support the integration of industry and education, Huawei invites university/college students to participate in the 8th Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024.

Students from across Kenya are invited to learn how to use Huawei Cloud to develop their innovations and then get help to turn their ideas into reality. Previous winners of the competition in Kenya have gone to South Africa to win at the Regional Finals and then to China to win at the Global Finals.

Previous winners from the competition were exhibiting their innovations at the Exhibition of Kenya Innovation Week. These included KidScan who developed an early detection and monitoring system for pneumonia in little kids that can reduce neonatal deaths, and another team who developed the Cardio Intelligent Monitoring System as a machine-learning-enabled low-cost ECG sensor to check a patient’s heart activity.

They were also sharing their experiences of entering the competition to guide other students on how to succeed during a panel discussion moderated by Michael Kamau, Huawei Kenya's ICT Academy manager. A Cloud Bootcamp was put on during Kenya Innovation Week to help train students and prepare them to enter the competition.
