Japanese automaker Isuzu Motors has renamed General Motors East Africa to Isuzu East Africa after completing the purchase of a controlling 57.7 per cent stake in the Nairobi-based motor vehicle dealer.

Isuzu acquired the shares from the Detroit-based General Motors in February for an undisclosed amount, ending their alliance which saw the latter sell the former’s brands in Kenya and other African markets.

GM also pulled out its Chevrolet franchise from Isuzu EA as part of the separation, leaving the dealer to focus on the sale of Isuzu trucks and buses.

The firm continues to offer support to owners of Chevrolet.

Isuzu also picked Eisaku Akazawa as chairman of the unit, replacing Mario Spangenberg who represented GM.
