Naivas hires expert to guide expansion

Naivas supermarket has hired an operations consultant to guide its expansion in the competitive retail sector.

The company has hired UK-based Andreas von Paleske, who has extensive experience in consumer and retail chain sector, as a technical adviser.

The former head of consumer business at Actis LLP has worked for reputable brands such as Weetabix, Kettle Chips, and Wagamama.

He has also served as a director at Lion Capital LLP, where he was responsible for sourcing and structuring private equity investments in the consumer sector in United States and Europe for almost a decade.

“We are on a growth trajectory and for us to keep moving and compete favourably with the big boys in the market not only in Kenya but across the region, we need the like of Mr Paleske,” Willy Kimani, chief operations officer at Naivas, said.

The local retail market has attracted new foreign players amid distress of some firms including Nakumatt Holdings and Uchumi Supermarkets #ticker:UCHM.
