Strathmore University School of Law dean Luis Franceschi yesterday said giving students access to the latest technology, ensures they emerge with experience of digital technologies which will have them well grounded on their future careers.

“We aim at training excellent lawyers; critical thinkers who are able to grasp a better understanding of justice,” said Mr Franceschi.

Law students at the institute will now be able to experience first-hand the benefits of digital evidence management and court presentation tools, allowing them more time to focus on their advocacy skills and less time on preparing paper bundles.

David Jackson of CaseLines said giving students access to the firm’s system and working with Microsoft, will allow them to experience the future of digital justice, trials and hearings and “position them to carry the flame of innovation into the legal community”.

“They will emerge with experience of digital technologies, which will set them up well in their future careers,” said Mr Jackson.

CaseLines enables courts, law firms and corporate legal departments to increase efficiency, reduce costs and improve productivity. It eliminates the direct and indirect costs of paper and PDFs. It also allows courtroom presentation of the bundles without the added cost of a courtroom operator.

CaseLines is used in the Supreme Court, civil and public law cases and in the Crown Court Digital Case System (CCDCS) across England and Wales and the dispute resolution authority for the Dubai International Financial Centre Courts.

CaseLines systems hold over 300,000 cases, with over 75 million pages evidence.
