Finance minister Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed Jinaro Kibet as the chair of the Capital Markets Authority Tribunal for a three year term, in a move that completes constitution of the market disputes resolution body.

The Capital Markets Tribunal is a where investors, brokers and other aggrieved parties such as listed companies lodge appeals against decisions by the industry regulator.

“The Capital Markets Tribunal is now fully constituted to hear appeals,” said CMA in a statement.

Parties that disagree with the tribunal’s rulings can lodge appeals at the High Court, as per the Capital Markets Act.

The Capital Markets Act requires the chair of the tribunal to be an experienced lawyer “of not less than seven years standing.” Mr Kibet is a partner in Ochieng, Onyango, Kibet and Ohaga Advocates.

The CMA statement said Mr Kibet has experience in private legal practice since his admission to the Bar in 1989, with “broad experience” in commercial and civil law, conveyancing, divorce and family law, wills and probate, trademarks and trust law.

Serving beside Mr Kibet in the Tribunal are Richard Etemesi, Laila Macharia and Daniel Ndonye. Mr Ndonye was the former chief executive of financial services advisory firm Deloitte. Dr Macharia is the chief executive of Scion Real, while Richard Etemesi is the chief executive of Standard Chartered Bank.
