Keter probed over Gilgil weighbridge drama

Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Alfred Keter was Sunday summoned to record a statement with the police over an incident that took place at the Gilgil Weighbridge station.

Mr Keter caused a stir at the weighbridge office on Saturday night, during which he insulted officials manning the station.

He had stormed the weighbridge station accompanied by nominated MP Sunjeev Birdi.

Mr Keter accused the officials of ignoring telephone calls from senior government officials. He was demanding the release of lorries that had been detained for exceeding the set axle-load limit and lacking valid paper work.

Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko on Sunday directed the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate the MPs.

By the time we went to press the URP legislator had not shown up at the DCI headquarters in Nairobi.

State House, through the Presidential Strategic Communication Unit’s Facebook page, condemned the incident. It also commended the officers for not bowing to the MPs’ demands.

Leader of Majority Aden Duale also issued a statement, saying action would be taken against the MPs.
