What you need to know:

  • The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has re-advertised the position of director-general a week after expiry of the initial deadline for submitting applications.

The telecommunications regulatory board says it has not received enough applicants for the position of director-general, forcing it to re-advertise.

The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) on Friday issued the notice for the position again a week after expiry of the initial deadline for submitting applications.

The candidates had up to May 15 to submit their applications in a recruitment that is expected to be concluded by August 22.

“We didn’t get enough applicants and that is the reason we have to advertise for the position again,” said the CA board chairman Ben Gituku in an interview.

Extensive experience

He, however, declined to state how many people had applied for the position, or the targeted number of applicants.

The CA board advertised for the position as required by the Kenya Communications Amendment Act 2013, which gives the authority’s board powers to hire the CEO in consultation with the Public Service Commission.

Francis Wangusi, the current director-general whose contract expires on August 21, is eligible for another term, but he could not be reached on Friday to confirm whether he had put in his application.

CA is seeking a candidate who has extensive leadership and managerial experience of 15 years, 10 of which must be at a senior managerial level.
He or she must also possess a postgraduate degree in a relevant field.

Interested people have up to June 10 to apply.
