Online shopping web portal Jumia has signed a deal with the Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK), which will allow its customers to pick up items bought on the website from 500 post offices.
Jumia hopes to attract more customers through the partnership with PCK, while the postal agency is set to earn a commission for every product or commodity delivered through its countrywide network.
A lack of an address system for buildings together with high customs duty and taxes paid on imports have been cited as factors stifling e-commerce in the country. The partnership between the two firms could ease delivery difficulties while taking advantage of PCK’s wide network and reach.
“We are delighted that our customers can now pick up items they order on Jumia from selected post offices across the country. This is a new direction in providing a stress-free, safe and convenient shopping experience,” said Jumia Kenya managing director Parinaz Firozi Monday.
Customers can choose to pick up products from a post office closest to them and pay through Postapay or M-Pesa.
