Retailer chain Nakumatt Supermarkets is set to resume operations at the Westgate Shopping Mall by the end of next week.

Nakumatt, the anchor tenant of the reconstructed high-end shopping complex will open its door on Saturday, July 18, during the official reopening of the Westgate Mall.

Other previous occupants of the mall such as Artcaffe, a high-end coffee shop, and Ashleys Beauty Centre are also set to resume operations.

"We are preparing for the opening and looking forward to welcome our loyal customers to come enjoy a new in store layout, wide stock variety and fresh ambience,” said Nakumatt Holdings managing director, Atul Shah.

The Westgate mall was destroyed during a terrorist attack by Somalia’s Al-Shabaab militia in September 2013, in which at least 67 people died and billions of shillings lost by businesses.

Nakumatt says its Westgate outlet will now cover additional space, and will feature branded shops focused on luxury goods such as fashion, accessories and gifts.

Mrs Terry Mungai, owner of the Ashleys Beauty Centre also said her firm had booked space five times its previous occupation at the revamped mall.

“As patriotic Kenyan business people, we are confident that Westgate Mall will arise from the ruins to greater heights than it ever was,” said Mrs Mungai, adding that: “We’ve made such a booking as a mark of our confidence in Westgate Shopping Mall and to enable us expand Ashleys Beauty Centre services.”
