Jade Collections opens sixth outlet in Nairobi’s Westlands

Fashion retailer Jade Collections has opened its sixth branch in Nairobi’s Westlands area as the firm steps up its expansion outside the city centre.

The two-floor store, which covers 9,000 square feet, is housed at the Grenadier towers on Woodvale groove, off Waiyaki Way. 

The new outlet brings to six the fashion retailer’s outlets including three branches in Niarobi’s Central Business Districts (CBD), Eldoret and Kisumu. The fashion house stocks ladies, men’s and children’s wear.

“The Westlands branch is for people who do not want to come to the CBD because of the traffic jam. People have been requesting us to set up a shop at Westlands area and we have finally obliged. The new branch has a different look from other branches since the interiors and display layout is unique,” said Jade Collections founder Bernice Mburu in an interview. She said the clothing chain spent Sh30 million on stocking up the new unit.

Jade Collections announced an eight-year expansion plan last year.

The other major players in the highly competitive clothing and apparel market include Tuskys Essentials, Deacons, Woolworths, Kings Collection, Mr Price, among other stand-alone shops.

The fashion retailer is now eyeing a new outlet in Mombasa in addition to setting up an apparel factory, warehouse and distribution centre in Thika town by 2019.

Jade Collections has already bought five acres of land for the planned factory. The company’s market penetration plan drawn for 2016-2020 period reveals a strategy to open 12 branches countrywide.

“Our expansion plans are funded internally and with the help of banks. We are opening shops in areas where we feel we are losing customers because we have not ventured into those regions,” Ms Mburu said.
