Troubled supermarket chain, Nakumatt, has moved to court yet again to fight for its lease at the Junction Mall.
In a certificate of urgency filed on Thursday, Nakumatt is seeking suspension of the directive requiring the management of Junction to throw them out of the space it has occupied for the past 12 years.
Through the firm of Iseme, Kamau and Maema, Nakumatt claims that its business will be further crippled if the decision to have them permanently evicted is implemented yet there are ongoing negotiations with banks, creditors, existing lenders and investors to recapitalise the retailer.
Nakumatt says that it’s over 3,000 employees in Kenya alone are at risk of being rendered jobless and that over 30,000 livelihoods would be affected.
“All efforts to preserve the company and thereby enable it meet all its outstanding obligations stand the risk of being jeopardised leading to the total collapse of Nakumatt’s business,” Nakumatt says.
