The National Construction Authority (NCA) is investigating an investor whose residential building is blamed for weakening a five-storey house in Kasarani, Nairobi.

NCA officer Crispus Ndinyo said a multi-agency team has been formed to investigate the main structure, the weakening of which reportedly forced tenants of another building to flee.

Mr Ndinyo said the building has since been condemned and its owner served with an enforcement notice stopping construction.

“We issue stoppage orders on uninspected and unapproved buildings but it is up to enforcement agencies to take action on offending party,” he said.

The engineer said tests will be conducted on the weakened building as well as the upcoming development before further recommendations are made on the offending party.

He said remedial work was necessary on the weakened building before it can be occupied. No tenant will be allowed to occupy any house at the property until it is confirmed as safe for occupation.

Cracks on the pillars of the five-storeyed building appeared recently after the new property dug foundation to facilitate construction.

Mr Ndinyo confirmed three stoppage orders had been issued against the developer.
