Health Principal Secretary Nicholas Muraguri has become a casualty of a new reshuffle affecting a dozen of principal secretaries in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government.
He has been moved to the Lands Ministry with his position at Afya House to be taken over by Julius Korir from the State Department of Industry and Enterprise Development.
Dr Muraguri has been the subject of media spotlight after an internal audit revealed that Kenyans may not have gotten their value for money in diversion of funds at the Health ministry.
He has also been at loggerheads with Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu in the immediate aftermath of the Sh5 billion Afya House heist.
The Senate Health Committee has previously asked Mr Kenyatta to intervene to resolve a leadership crisis at the ministry after it emerged as a major obstacle to ending the recently ended 100-day doctors’ strike.
Irrigation Principal Secretary Patrick Mwangi, who has been at the centre of a row with his boss CS Eugene Wamalwa over the Thwake dam tender, has also been moved to the State Department of Industry and Enterprise Development.
Mr Wamalwa had earlier in the week told his PS to take responsibility for the controversy surrounding the award of a Sh62.3 billion tender to the second lowest bidder for the construction of the dam.
Two Chinese firms — China Gezhouba Construction Group Corporation (CGGC) and STECOL Corporation (Sino Hydro Tianjin Engineering Co Ltd — have been battling to clinch the deal.

Transport PS Wilson Nyakera, who has championed the Standard Gauge Railway project and the early oil export scheme, has also been moved to the State Department of Planning and Statistics.
Another major reshuffle is that of Ambassador Peter Kaberia of Defence, who has been moved to the State Department of Sports Development at a time when the country is experiencing sporadic clashes in regions like Laikipia, Bomet and Elgeyo Marakwet.
Others affected by the reshuffle list include Micah Pkopus Powon who has been moved from State Department of Correctional Services to that of Devolution, Mwanamaka Mabruki who has been moved from Devolution to the State Department of Gender Affairs and Zeinab Hussein from Gender Affairs replaces Mr Mwangi at the Water and Irrigation ministry.
Mariam El-Maawy has been transferred from the Lands ministry to the State Department of Public Works and PS Saitoti Torome to the state department of Defense to that of Planning and Statistics.
Dr Paul Maringa Mwangi of the Public Works ministry has been moved to the ministry of Transport, while ambassador Richard Ekai becomes the new PS for the state department of Correctional Services to that of Sports Development.
