LSK warns govt against Sh125bn Anglo Leasing payout

The government has been urged to refrain from making the Sh125 billion Anglo Leasing payment or face prosecution.

A statement from the Law Society of Kenya on Tuesday reiterated concerns over an intent to pay "ghost companies" Universal Satspace Company and First Mercantile Securities Corporation.

"We therefore demand that the Attorney-General makes available to the public (through its website) the pleadings and award in the matter," LSK said.

LSK warned that it will take out private prosecution against those who contractually committed the country to such payments. "It is these kind of financial scams that continue to hurt the country’s economy."

An inquiry into the Standard Gauge Railway has also been set-up to "to forestall a repeat exercise."

"We are likely to file a suit to stop the implementation of the contract and to nullify it," the statement adds.
