CBK urged to hasten prosecution of Imperial Bank directors

The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has been urged to hasten the prosecution of Imperial Bank directors involved in the collapse of the bank to prevent them from fleeing the country.

Members of Parliament accused CBK of being soft on the directors of the bank as it sought to have them inject additional capital in the closed lender.

But CBK said it was building a water tight case against perpetrators of the Sh38 billion fraud which led to closure of the bank, with the help of forensic auditors.

“There is no softness but we need to put together a solid case that can stand legal scrutiny,” said CBK governor Dr Patrick Njoroge.

The governor disclosed they were building a case against senior managers of the bank who authorised falsification of financial statements presented to CBK.
