Brookside Dairy plans to set up more cooling stations and milk sheds to reduce the time farmers take in moving the perishable commodity to the facilities.

Brookside Dairy’s general manager John Gethi said the move was part of the company’s strategy to increase its raw milk market.

“We are busy implementing strategies to increase our raw milk market which includes plans to set up additional milk cooling facilities,” Mr Gethi said in a statement.

The company said it was collecting milk from farmers normally contrary to reports that it had suspended collection in the North Rift because of security fears surrounding the General Election.

“Our contracts with farmers assure them that we would collect the agreed milk volumes on a daily basis,” he said.

Brookside, which boast of 40 per cent of the regional raw milk market, is recruiting more suppliers to secure the volumes needed before it starts test runs on its dry milk plant later this year.
