Travellers can now book and pay for tickets on Kenya Airways’ budget carrier, JamboJet after the airline’s online portal went live Thursday.

The portal, Jambojet.com, will enable customers book and pay for flights using mobile phones or cards as the low-cost carrier looks to make most of its sales on the Internet.

JamboJet will start operations on April 1 with one-way tickets as low as Sh2,850 to domestic destinations such as Mombasa, Kisumu and Eldoret.

Travellers can also book flights through the airline’s call centre and Kenya Airways’ sales offices.

“I am pleased to announce that Jambojet.com is now live and customers can book flights using this convenient and accessible platform which complements our call centre and existing Kenya Airways’ sales channels while also delivering our promise of affordable air travel,” JamboJet CEO, Willem Hondius said Thursday.

JamboJet has partnered with mobile technology firm Cellulant, which developed the portal, to help it save on extra costs that come with use of agents.

Customers can make payments through M-Pesa, Airtel Money and banks such as Barclays, Standard Chartered, CfC Stanbic, NIC, Faulu, Bank of Africa, DTB, Ecobank, I&M and First Community Bank.

The budget airline will initially launch on Kisumu, Eldoret and Mombasa routes from Nairobi.

JamboJet flights will come with fewer comforts found on international airlines and passengers could be asked to pay for extras like food and baggage.
