Former Internal Security Minister Chris Murungaru has blamed western countries of engineering corruption allegations against him over his decision to embrace eastern countries.

Dr Murungaru on Tuesday told Justice David Onyancha that the reports of him being involved in corruption started when he deliberately started doing business with other countries.

The fomer powerful minister was testifying for the second day he has sued former Governance and Ethics Permanent Secretary John Githongo for linking him to the scandal.

“As soon as NARC formed the government, I was central to making deliberate policy decision to turn our country East,” said Dr Murungaru, adding this did not go well with most western countries.

He said that his decision to gazzete notice lifting the colonial ban of Mau Mau in August 2003 further rattled British government.

He said the diplomatic office of some of this western power and the politicians from LDP wing of the government who are unhappy over implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding started fighting him.

“I was fought by politicians from opposite side of the coalition through falsehood and deliberate manufactured rumors about my sudden acquisition of wealth,” he said.

He denied being the one who caused the transfer of Mr Githongo from state house to Justice Ministry, the transfer which was later rescinded.
Dr Murungaru further denied having ever discussed plotting demotion of Mr Githongo with Kiraitu Murungi.

He said he discussed issue of raising funds for 2007 campaign through Anglo leasing project in advance with one time presidential candidate and longtime politician Simeon Nyanchae.

He blamed Mr Githongo dossier of causing him troubles and agony and crashing his political career. He blamed his humiliating lose in 2007 election of Kieni parliamentary seat and 2013 senatorial seat to the dossier.

Dr Murungaru said because of the report his Visa to US and UK was banned.

“I can only consider the report the pricipalk reason why I was dropped from Cabinet in 2006. I was dropped because of allegation made (by Mr Githongo) and the extreme pressure on the president by different actors that caused me to be dropped from cabinet,” he said.

Mr Githongo on Monday hearing said that the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC), which was then chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta cleared him of wrongdoing on his part.
