EDITORIAL: Prepare well for rains

We should not allow rain water to go to waste. FILE PHOTO | NMG

The weatherman has announced that most parts of the country will experience above average rainfall in the short rain season that starts this month and ends in December.

Though it has become a common song that always goes unheard, we again urge those concerned to take contingency measures ahead of the coming rains.

The country has performed quite poorly when it comes to harvesting rain water yet shortages of the commodity are commonplace.

Given that the alerts are issued regularly by the Meteorological Department, how well prepared are the national and county governments?

Have dykes been built in flood prone areas? Have people living in areas where landslides occur been relocated?

The Met Department has forecasted that much of the country will experience above average rainfall. Are we well prepared?

The ill-preparedness that has been exhibited in the past should now be a thing of the past. We have agencies that are funded by the taxpayers whose main role is to come up with mitigating measures that ensure Kenyans are well prepared.

We should also not allow the rain water to go to waste.
