Last week’s plane crash in the Aberdares mountain range that claimed 10 lives should spur our aviation regulator into finding out the cause of the accident and how to ensure it does not recur.

Let’s find out the root cause of plane accidents in the country such as the one involving a FlySax plane.

The plane’s wreckage was discovered two days after it was reported missing. There was also October’s helicopter crash that claimed the lives of five people in Lake Naivasha.

These two crashes also exposed our frailties when it comes to rescue and recovery missions following plane accidents. While we do not want to preempt the investigations into the latest crash, the one major question in many minds is whether such accidents could have been avoided.

These are the answers many Kenyans are seeking and the aviation regulator and other government agencies owe it to them to explain the cause ad also set out to put in place measures that will help prevent similar occurrences.

We must strive to make air travel in the country as safe as possible.
