EDITORIAL: Sort out mess at KMC

Time is nigh for KMC to account for the money that has been pumped into the entity over the years and anyone found culpable of pilferage dealt with. FILE PHOTO | NMG

That the management of Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) can lock out herders seeking their dues and snub a scheduled Senate committee meeting speaks volumes of the callous leadership that runs the State firm.

These actions beg the question as to whether they are trying to hide something from the public.

It cannot be denied that the 68- year- old company has grappled with misfortunes since the 1960s spanning political interest, obsolete machinery and loss of the European Union market due to animal diseases among other woes.

And workers are now alleging poor treatment from their bosses, unpaid dues and frustrations that have partly contributed to the pathetic 30 percent level of operation on the ground.

Time is nigh for KMC to account for the money that has been pumped into the entity over the years and anyone found culpable of pilferage dealt with.

Otherwise it would make more sense to dispose it to the public for those interested with other assets that the limping company owns.
