French champagne maker Moet & Chandon will in May launch its luxury sweet drink Nectar Imperial in Nairobi, making it the second launch in Africa after South Africa.

Company officials said they have been testing the Kenyan market with samples of the drink, paving the way for large shipments of the champagne starting May.

The retail price of a 750-millilitre bottle of the drink is about Sh7,000 at supermarkets and dealer stores and between Sh15,000 and Sh17,000 at entertainment spots.

“We have done our research and we feel Nectar Imperial is fit for the Kenyan market. As the name suggests, it’s much sweeter, exotic and comes in flavours like passion fruit, pineapple and citrus,” the company’s business development manager Pierre-Louis Araud said in an interview.
