Crown Paints launches bacteria-proof product

Crown Paints Kenya has turned focus on a new market with the launch of an anti-bacterial paint.

The firm says the new paint, Medicryl Silk Emulsion, has anti-bacterial properties which help curb bacteria growth on the surfaces it is applied.

This makes it ideal for places requiring high standards of hygiene like hospitals, eateries and schools to avoid bacterial and fungal infections.

A four-litre tin of the paint will cost Sh2, 550, which translates to a 15 per cent climb from the average price of Sh2, 220 for the standard paint.

Speaking at the launch, chairman of the Kenya Medical Association Dr Elly Opot said the new product would enhance efforts to provide better health services in the country.

“We want to urge all the manufacturers in the country to follow the path of Crown as this product will help address the challenge posed by hospital-related infections to both patients and hospital staff,” said Dr Opot.

Crown Paints CEO Rakesh Rao said they were focused on innovative products that provide an enhanced living environment for users.

Crown paints last year introduced Teflon surface protector which ensures walls and other surfaces remain easy to clean and resistant to stains.

The paint company has been expanding its operations into the regional market and has since invested over Sh250 million to build a paint plant in Tanzania.

The firm saw its turnover rise last year by 16.5 per cent last year.
