Health ministry annuls board decision to suspend NHIF boss

NHIF chief executive Richard Kerich and five senior managers were briefly suspended from their positions on Thursday, only for the Health ministry to lift the suspension an hour later.

Board chairman Richard Muga sent the senior managers on leave pending investigation on irregular deals relating to recruitment of unqualified healthcare facilities in provision of the expanded medical care.

He also sensationally accused Medical Services permanent secretary, who later nullified the suspension, of abetting the pilferage of member contributions to non-existent facilities.

In what was evidently a stormy board meeting earlier Thursday, a majority of members objected to the CEO's suspension with Mr Muga claiming they had been compromised by the CEO
