The Nairobi National Museum has been awarded a global prize for exemplary services to tourists visiting the facility. The museum was among top 10 destinations in the world that received the TripAdvisor certificate of excellence this year.
The award fetes outstanding business units with the aim of boosting standards in the tourism and hospitality industry.
“This is a reflection of our commitment to offer our clients the best of services,” National Museums of Kenya public relations manager Sharon Kyungu said.
The museum enjoyed positive reviews and recommendations on the TripAdvisor’s website from tourists who have visited the facility.
TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site, provides information to over 200 million travellers every month on available hotels, attractions, and destinations around the world.
For a business unit to bag the award, it must show consistency in the delivery of quality service and score at least four points out of five in regard to the reviews posted on TripAdvisor’s site. Additionally, the business must have listed on TripAdvisor for a minimum period of one year.
“This accolade means our hard work is finally paying off,” National Museum of Kenya director-general Idle Farah said.
The award comes at a time when tourist arrival in the country is expected to surge on the back of the annual wildebeest migration between July and October. The development puts museums in good stead with prospects of reaping big from a tourist influx.
Last month the State Corporation introduced night tours targeting high-end visitors coming from conferences around the city.
The National Museum of Kenya is also currently conducting free historical walking tours around Nairobi’s central business district. The initiative, in partnership with the GoDown Art Centre, aims to educate both locals and visitors on cultural monuments around Nairobi.
