Stanbic Kenya CEO Joshua Oigara to lead the bank's East Africa operations

Stanbic Bank Kenya Chief Executive Officer Joshua Oigara has been promoted to head the parent firm’s-Standard Bank Group-East Africa operations.

Mr Oigara will take over from Patrick Mweheire, whose five-year term lapses on August 31, 2025, upon regulatory approvals.

He currently serves as CEO of Stanbic Bank Kenya and South Sudan operations and the promotion will add additional roles, including leading the investment banking arm, SBG Securities, and Stanbic Insurance Agency Limited.

Mr Oigara will helm Standard Bank's operations in Uganda, Ethiopia and Tanzania. At KCB, he ran operations with foreign subsidiaries in Rwanda,  South Sudan, Burundi, Tanzania, and Uganda

Stanbic Bank Kenya tapped Mr Oigara as its CEO in December 2022 after he ended a nine-year run at KCB as the Group chief executive.

“Mr Oigara is an industry pioneer who has advanced the region’s growth through transformative leadership,” Stanbic Bank Kenya said in a statement on Wednesday.

“He was instrumental in catalysing digitization in East Africa’s banking sector and partnered with regulators and key industry players to expand financial inclusion across the region through technology-driven solutions and enabling policies.”
