A total of 76 youth have graduated from a vocational training programme that equipped them with plumbing and electrical skills of international standards after completing a two-year course funded by a Swiss organisation.

The programme, PropelA, provided training at the Don Bosco Training Institute and select private companies that offered hands-on experience and employment opportunities.

The National Industrial Training Authority (Nita) conducted assessments and certification for the students.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony at Don Bosco Training Institute, Swiss Ambassador to Kenya, Mirko Giulietti, praised the programme for bridging the gap between private companies and learning institutions.

“The programme is modelled around Switzerland’s government policy, where we believe technical skills play a crucial role in addressing unemployment. The private sector’s involvement is vital, as they understand the required skill set and job opportunities available,” he said
Lilian Mwai, country director of Swiss Contact, said the programme aligns with the evolving job market dynamics globally.

“It exemplifies the power of collaboration between the private sector, government, and vocational training institutions,” she said.
