Nine Kenyan startups stand to benefit from capacity building after they made it to the final list of firms that will showcase their business ideas before a jury at this year’s Sankalp Africa Summit.

A total of 10 firms will prove their investor-ready capacities before the panel that includes investors, corporations, governments and funders at the event scheduled for Thursday.

The 10 were picked from a list of 20 startups that had been shortlisted to take part in the annual event aimed at growing businesses to the next level. Popote Payments is among those who made it to the final list. The two-year-old FinTech company operates a platform that enables businesses and individuals to make and manage their payables digitally.

AfriTech firm iProcure, which provides business intelligence and data-driven stock management across supply chains, is also featured on the final list.

Other Kenyan firms listed among the finalists include Student Finance Africa (SFA), Soko Watch, Ecozoom, Internet of Elephants, Amtech, Indicus and Agrimech Africa Limited.

Rwanda-based Kesha is the only enterprise outside Kenya that made it to this year’s final list at the Sankalp summit.

The company sells and delivers women health products such as sanitary pads and contraceptives over a widely accessible mobile platform. Upon pitching their business ideas at the two-day summit, the panel of judges will pick three firms that show they are most investor ready.

The global event expects participants from over 40 countries across the world. It is an annual affair bringing the entrepreneurs community together to help solve problems facing them through cutting edge innovation.

It is organised by Intellecap, a global investment and advisory firm, and is aimed at facilitating connections, collective learning and a collaborative approach to building entrepreneurial ecosystems.

The summit recognises high potential entrepreneurs with 10 enterprises competing for the coveted Sankalp Africa Award each year.
