Earlier in April this year, the BRS warned that hundreds of companies risked being scrapped from the register if they did not update their records and confirm they are still active.

The number of new businesses registered in Kenya during the first half of this year rose 10.9 percent to 74,740, up from 67,406 in a corresponding period last year, reversing a trend observed during the full year ended last December when they dipped 7.6 percent.

Data from the Business Registration Service (BRS) shows that the number of new firms registered between January and June 2025 is the highest ever recorded in any corresponding period since 2016, when the agency started keeping the records.
