The Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri) is set to launch a variety of cheaper plant-based products as part of a strategy to help lower the cost of healthcare.

Plant-based medicinal products are traditionally cheaper because their active compounds are plentiful in nature, reducing the need for costly synthetic production, and they are frequently less regulated, requiring less extensive and expensive clinical trials compared to patented pharmaceuticals.
