Nine Kenyans who had been stranded in Liberia arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport a few minutes past midnight and were held for screening for the Ebola virus.

Blood samples were taken from the Kenyans, who included five adults and four children. The samples were taken to the Kenya Medical Research Institute for screening.

According to Health Cabinet Secretary James Macharia, the nine will be held for six hours and will be allowed to go home if the tests are negative. He said the results were expected Wednesday morning and Ministry of Health personnel will make daily follow-ups for 21 days on those who will be released to go home.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has identified Kenya as a high-risk zone for Ebola.

Ebola, a deadly haemorrhagic fever, first broke out in Guinea in March this year. It has so far killed more than 5,000 people, half of them in Liberia, according to the WHO.
